The highly popular Toyota Yaris has been named ‘Green Car of the Year’ by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA).

The news has been warmly welcomed by William A. Lewis Toyoto for the Yaris, in addition to its excellent economy, has a low insurance rating and slow depreciation, making it one of the cheapest cars to run.

As well as being the overall winner of the ETA’s ‘Green Car of the Year’ 2008, the Yaris has been voted the top green vehicle in the supermini category.

In addition to the Yaris being named the overall winner, three other Toyota models were in the ETA’s top 10.

The environmentally friendly Prius hybrid, which runs on electricity and petrol, was placed third, the city car Aygo sixth and Auris ninth.

The Toyota RAV4 was named as the greenest vehicle in the off road category, while the Aygo was top in the city category.

Toyota itself has collected two prestigious ‘Big Tick’ awards for environmental leadership and eco-efficiency.  Business in the Community has recognized the positive contribution Toyota is making to minimize the impact of its operations on the environment and to inspire others to take a responsible approach.
